One of the oldest cities in the United States, Boston is a haven for history buffs. It is home to the nation’s first college, the first public school, first subway, and even the nation’s first country club, The Country Club of Brookline. But just because you can’t get a tee time at The Country Club doesn’t mean you should leave your sticks at home.

Where to Stay
Liberty Hotel
Staying at the very trendy Liberty Hotel in downtown Boston is an experience in itself. Built in 1951, this granite structure once housed some of the city’s most notorious criminals in its prison walls, but today its beautifully preserved trademark windows and historic catwalks perfectly mesh with its upscale dining and accommodations. 215 Charles St, Boston, 617-224-4000, libertyhotel.com.

Where to Play
Granite Links Golf Club
Located just 15 minutes’ south of Boston, Granite Links offers three nine-hole links-style layouts to choose from. To top it off, the semi-private course and its clubhouse offer some of the best views of the Boston skyline in the area. 100 Quarry Hills Dr, Quincy, 617-689-1900, granitelinksgolfclub.com; 6,858 yards, par 72, green fees $100-$125.

Waverly Oaks Golf Club
Designed by Brian Silva in 1998, the course’s elevated tees offer captivating views of nearby Plymouth Harbor but make wind a prevailing factor during play. No. 8 is the signature hole. 444 Long Pond Rd, Plymouth, 508-224-6016, waverlyoaksgolfclub.com; 7,114 yards, par 72, green fees $75-$95.

Pinehills Golf Club
Two spectacular 18-hole courses, one by Rees Jones and the other a Nicklaus Design, unfold over 300 acres of rolling hills in Plymouth. Both courses continually rank among the best in the Northeast and are well worth the short drive south. 54 Clubhouse Dr, Plymouth, 508-209-3000, pinehillsgolf.com; Jones 7,175 yards, par 72, Nicklaus 6,640 yards, par 72, green fees $95-$105.

And if You Have the Time
Fenway Park
There’s nothing quite like taking in a game a Fenway. Opened in 1912, it is the oldest Major League Baseball stadium still in use. And the Red Sox aren’t too shabby either. Ballpark tours are available. 4 Yawkey Way, Boston, boston.redsox.mlb.com.
